Exchange meeting in Vienna inspired new approaches to urban biodiversity

Project exchange visit in Vienna

From 25–27 February 2025, Co‑Bio partners met in Vienna for an exchange visit hosted by Öko Campus Wien and Gartenpolylog. The program combined field visits and knowledge‑sharing focused on urban biodiversity and community engagement.

Key Outcomes from the Exchange meeting

  • UBB Campus & City-Forest: Partners explored efforts to remove invasive species and introduce fruit trees and hedges around the University of Vienna’s Biology Building.
  • Biodiversity corridor in Ottakring: A community‑driven initiative transforming tree pits and public spaces, presented by Sarah Prehsler.
  • SOLEKTIV & Sonnenpark: Insights from St. Pölten on ecological restoration, community gardens, and biodiversity‑friendly practices.
  • Case study exchange: Partners shared progress, challenges, and best practices from their local cases.
  • Co‑Creation & Public value: Reflections on strengthening community involvement across project activities.
  • Campus biodiversity tour: A look at Öko Campus Wien's bat boxes, bird habitats, and sustainable mowing techniques.

The visit provided partners with fresh inspiration and concrete examples to support their ongoing case work in 2025–2026.
